Our goal is to produce sound, well tempered dogs with versatile abilities.
Multi purpose dogs for any venue your heart desires.
Our dogs have high intelligence, birdiness, the desire to please
and be with people, therefore making them
exellent house pets and members of the family.
In other words, straight from the field on the couch to be loved.
Here at Rivendell we train in many activities , including  obedience/rally, agility, tracking and hunt tests.
We strive  for performance titles
that are not only a mere passing score, but also show
the beauty and brains of the GSP
with very competetive high scores and placement ribbons
Field Training Day
About the German Shorthaired Pointer
The GSP is a highly intelligent breed, but slow to mature, with a strong
instinct to hunt. Mental stimulation is most important  and also a certain
amount of free supervised running is needed on a regular basis.
There are many ways to give the GSP the need to work he craves,
even though bred to hunt, as examples obedience, agility,
field/hunt tests. If none of those interest you, then hardy play
with a ball or favorite toy with basice obedience manners will do.
A bored GSP can be very trying and destructive.
A GSP needs to know his place in the family and who is Boss.
They are physically strong and need to be taught from an early age
right from wrong. Your GSP will thrive on supervision, stimulation,
companionship and socialization.
They are not aggressive by nature and their most endearing traits is their love of people and will not thrive being locked away from the family. The average life expectancy is 13- 15 years,
so the GSP is a long term commitment.
But a properly reared GSP is the greatest joy to own!
